It’s been a bit since the last update, and some things have happened since then. The biggest is that I released my book 100 Unusual Prompts for Writers of Horror, Weird, and Bizarro Fiction into the wild, and it has now spreading throughout the world for a month. It is exciting to see 100 Unusual Prompts in the hands of others, and it was an amazing feeling to hand out so many copies to contributors at Stokercon.
Speaking of Stokercon, I just got back from Stokercon 2024 this past weekend. This year it was in San Diego, a city I’ve never visited before, and as always, it was a ton of fun. It is a treat to visit all of my spooky friends in person. While there, not only did I hand out a ton of contributor copies, but I also sold a handful. I even had a table at the mass author signing this year, which was a blast.
My favorite bit of the con is doing a reading. And this year there were about fifteen or so people in attendance for reading block. I let the audience decide what I would read, and they chose my assassins in the woods story, which I’m still shopping around. Sam Rebelien gave me a good lead on where I should send it.
My writing projects at the moment are a little stagnant, but I plan to pick up the pace very soon. I’m still working on my fungal punk novel, and in the month of July myself and a group of friends are all going to write novellas. I’m spending this month preparing for that adventure. I’m sure I’ll have an update for you all about that next time around.
Dark Forest Press seems to be snowballing. I’m picking up new client work here and there, which is great. There are a couple projects in the works. One is a super secret one that I hope to share more about in the near future, the other is that I plan to open DFP for novella/novel submissions within the next four to five months. These are exciting times.
But I think that is all of the big news for this month. How about all of you? What big news do you have to share? Did you buy a copy of 100 Unusual Prompts? If so, what is your favorite prompt so far? And if you write something inspired by the book I would love to hear about it.
Until next time
Stay spooky
Joe
